Hello!
My teaching approach is friendly, creative, supportive, and inclusive. I really enjoy the collaborative problem-solving process with each unique student and strive to create an atmosphere where students feel safe to experiment and try new things. I balance sharing my enthusiasm for the fun/artistic aspects of making music with rigorous attention to building a strong technical foundation. The more we understand the mechanics of technique, the more we can relax and enjoy the process!
Before moving to the Netherlands I spent 10 years teaching classical cello full time, teaching my large private cello class and running cello departments in several universities in New York State. I have been passionate about teaching for most of my life, and have invested deeply in building my pedagogical approach.
I have taught cellists from many backgrounds, ages 4-80, from complete beginners to cellists preparing for professional careers.
I specialize in "healthy playing" for injury prevention, working with neurodivergence and hypermobility, and historical style.
If you are an adult beginner, please feel welcome! I have helped many older adults start their cello journey and add a meaningful practice to their lives, and I enjoy the unique process of learning at this stage of life.
An additional aspect of my teaching which I am pleased to provide: many of my adult students have come to music as part of a healing process or recovery program. For those who require a trauma-informed approach, I am skilled in helping students integrate therapeutic tools such as mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and somatic grounding into their cello practice.

I offer flexible and customized instruction on classical cello, baroque cello, and viola da gamba.
I teach both in person and online. I have extensive experience with online teaching and understand how to help students get the most out of a remote learning experience.
I accept students of all ages and welcome everyone from beginner level to experienced cellists, whether you are playing for enjoyment or preparing for conservatory or youth orchestra auditions.
Lessons are typically held weekly. I can usually offer flexible scheduling, which will be agreed upon according to mutual availability.
Lesson length: 60 minute lessons required for adults; for children, lesson length will be agreed upon according to age, level, learning style, and focus.
With enough enrollment I hope to also offer cello ensemble classes, as I have organized for my students in the past.
