Over Charis
Charis Orfanidou, a soprano born in 2001 to a Greek-Cypriot family in Cyprus, was immersed in the arts from a young age, thanks to her musical upbringing and her parents' support. As a child, she studied ballet, modern dance, and acting, and began piano lessons at the age of ten. It was not long before her parents recognized her love for singing, often hearing her sing softly when she thought no one was listening.
Charis had the honor of performing works by Alma Mahler as a soloist with an ensemble under the direction of Jac van Steen. She has also worked with renowned director Floris Visser, portraying Zerlina in “Don Giovanni” and performing the leading roles of Susanna and Contessa in “Le nozze di Figaro”. Alongside her opera engagements, Charis has collaborated with composers to expand her musical range. She participated in the Opera Forward Festival 2025, where she performed in a contemporary opera.
For several years, Charis has been a member of the Kyrenia Opera Company, where she has performed in multiple productions of ‘‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’’ in Cyprus and Austria. She has also taken on the role of Kate Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly”. Her long-standing connection with the company continued in February, when she performed operetta arias as a young soloist in Vienna, further expanding her artistic career.
Charis is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in classical singing at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. She graduated last year with a Bachelor’s degree in classical singing at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, under the guidance of Amand Hekkers. Prior to this, she refined her skills in Vienna, where she received private lessons from soprano Sona Ghazarian and mezzo-soprano Regine Köbler, after graduating with the second-highest marks from her school in Cyprus. This marked a significant shift in her education toward opera.
Alongside her performing career, Charis has worked as a vocal teacher for several years. Last year, she received a diploma in music education alongside her classical singing diploma. She enjoys helping others develop their vocal abilities and share together the beautiful art of it. I believe through singing you find who you are.
As a young soloist, Charis regularly performs in both intimate concerts and large-scale works, developing a particular affinity for Mozart, bel canto, and verismo repertoire. For her, the stage has always felt like home: “There is something about the stage that I can't quite express—is it the lights? The adrenaline? Just the stage itself? All I know is that I feel the sparks.”

My singing lessons are for any genre and level. I like to tailor each lesson to the student, because everyone works differently, but my approach is consistent: I believe in healthy, solid technique. As a teacher, my goal is to help you build that strong foundation. Singing is magic and fun, and developing proper technique only makes it even more enjoyable!
I like to explore with my students who they are as singers and help them refine their voices. I’m flexible with what you want to sing, and I can guide you toward the areas where I see your voice can grow.
One thing that I enjoy adding in my lessons and so far all my students do too, is acting. I find acting to be a positive layer in one’s interpretation and it broadens up your imagination. It makes the singing lesson light and more performative.
I offer lessons in English, Greek, and German, both in person and online. Lesson length can be tailored to your level and preferences, we can discuss what works best for you.

If a student prefers a different personalist option, I am happy to discuss it.
Duo lessons are also applicable: tweens or two friends having a lesson at the same time! I have had experience with this, and it was a super fun time for both the students and me. We prepared duets and worked on technique in a fun way.
