I am a legal researcher originally from Japan, having studied in the Netherlands (Leiden and Utrecht). Teaching and learning languages have been a hobby for me for quite some time, and I have taught for about 3 years in total.
I am also passionate about various domains of creation, be it culinary or visual art. I would be delighted to speak with you about various aspects of Japanese culture. I am also able to teach many beautiful words in Japanese, as I am a linguist of sorts.

Thank you for your interest in my lessons. I am happy to teach Japanese to learners at all levels, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced learner. I speak English at a native level.
I design lessons specifically for each student. To that end, we will discuss your expectations and requirements during our first (trial) lesson.
For example, some students intend to reside in Japan, and wish to learn basic conversation skills and some reading; others are preparing for a qualification; and some simply wish to learn beautiful Japanese words and phrases.
I dedicate a considerable amount of time outside of lessons to ensure that you gain a solid understanding and enduring confidence in the language. I prepare tailored learning materials for each student, selecting appropriate content with care for each lesson.
In our lessons, we will create sentences, discover new grammatical points, and explore new vocabulary. In this way, we aim to 'live' the language, allowing it to be internalised naturally.
After each lesson, I submit detailed notes summarising the main grammatical points and vocabulary. These notes may include small tasks to complete before the next lesson, which help reinforce understanding and long-term retention. They are supportive rather than compulsory, and always adapted to your pace.
If you are starting to learn Japanese, we converse slowly. I believe a strong grammatical spine is helpful for constructing accurate sentences (without resorting to unnecessary perfectionism). I will give you useful tips and phrases to enhance your proficiency. If you are an advanced student, we may discuss specific themes such as dining, travelling, or culture.
A distinguishing feature of my lessons is my attention to the etymology and beauty of the Japanese language, with close reference to culture. For example, we may explore the word 'arigatou' – often translated as 'thanks' – and discover that it originally relates to 'the rarity of circumstance'.
You will find that I am very easy-going. Lessons are relaxed, and mistakes are most welcome. For me, the most important thing is that you achieve your goals while enjoying the learning process.
I am currently residing in the Netherlands. If you are also in this region, it may be easier to arrange suitable time slots. For hours when I am not usually available, please do not hesitate to inquire, as I may be able to accommodate your schedule.
