I am a legal researcher originally from Japan, having studied in the Netherlands (Leiden and Utrecht). Teaching and learning languages have been a hobby for me for quite some time, and I have taught for about 3 years in total.
I am also passionate about various domains of creation, be it culinary or visual art. I would be delighted to speak with you about various aspects of Japanese culture. I am also able to teach many beautiful words in Japanese, as I am a linguist of sorts.

Thank you for your interest in my lessons. I am happy to teach Japanese to learners at all levels, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced learner. Lessons are conducted in English.
I design every lesson around the individual student. During our first (trial) lesson, we will discuss your goals and expectations so that I can tailor a learning plan to your needs.
For example, some students intend to reside in Japan, and wish to learn basic conversation skills and some reading; others are preparing for a qualification; and some simply wish to learn beautiful Japanese words and phrases!
My aim is to help you develop a solid understanding and enduring confidence in using the language. To achieve this, I dedicate a considerable amount of time outside of lessons preparing personalised materials and reviewing your progress.
Rather than treating each lesson as an isolated session, I continually build on what we have previously studied. By revisiting grammar and vocabulary at appropriate moments, correcting recurring mistakes, and reinforcing earlier material, the language gradually becomes natural and intuitive.
Some of the ways I prepare include:
- Identifying weak points and creating exercises to strengthen them
- Preparing conversation topics that incorporate recently learned grammar
- Selecting reading material appropriate to your level and interests
- Providing detailed lesson notes summarising grammar, vocabulary, and useful expressions
- Assigning and reviewing homework (optional)
- Creating quizzes to reinforce earlier material and monitor long-term progress
During our lessons, we create sentences together, explore new grammatical points, expand your vocabulary, and practise using Japanese in context. In this way, we aim to live the language, allowing it to be internalised naturally.
If you are starting to learn Japanese, we converse slowly. I believe a strong grammatical spine is helpful for constructing accurate sentences. I will give you useful tips and phrases to enhance your proficiency. If you are an advanced student, we may discuss specific themes such as Japanese culture, literature, travel, food, current affairs, or any other topic that interests you.
You will find that I am very easy-going. Lessons are relaxed, and mistakes are most welcome. For me, the most important thing is that you achieve your goals while enjoying the learning process.
I am currently residing in the Netherlands. If you are also in this region, it may be easier to arrange suitable time slots. For hours when I am not usually available, please do not hesitate to inquire, as I may be able to accommodate your schedule.
