Hi, I’m Alvin
I’m an English coach based in the Netherlands, with 5 years of experience teaching and working with students in both classroom and one-to-one settings.
Over those years, I’ve taught learners with very different personalities, abilities, and ambitions—from students who needed to rebuild their confidence in English to high-level learners preparing for C1/CAE, university, the GMAT, or important professional opportunities. I’ve seen students who barely wanted to speak at first become the ones confidently leading conversations, presentations, and interviews.
That is what I enjoy most about teaching: seeing the change in a student from the first lesson to the moment they realize, “I can actually do this.”
I bring that same energy into every lesson. I’m friendly and easy to talk to, but I take your goals seriously. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, improving your professional English, or simply want to become a much stronger speaker, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward.
After five years of teaching, I’ve learned that there is no single “perfect” way to learn English. Some students need encouragement, some need a challenge, some need structure, and most need a combination of all three.
My goal is simple: for you to feel the difference in your English — not just hear me talk about it.

How I teach:
I don’t think great teaching is talking to students. It’s about knowing precisely where someone is at, what’s holding them back, and giving them the right tools, practice, and guidance to move forward.
My lessons are *High standards with real patience and support*. I want to challenge my students, but I never want to judge them. Mistakes are not failures; they are information telling us exactly what to work on next.
-My styles and methods of teaching
My approach is very personalized and results-oriented, not one of going through a textbook from the beginning to the end.
First I assess the student’s current level, goals, weaknesses, and learning style. Then we lay out a clear road map.
Here is my core framework:
Assess, Identify, Teach, Practice, Correct, Apply, Repeat, Master*
I concentrate a lot on active learning. I don’t just teach grammar or vocabulary; I get students to use it right away. Through conversation, exam questions, writing, problem-solving, role-play, and real-life scenarios.
I also make use of intentional repetition and specific correction. When a student makes the same mistake, we don’t just correct the mistake. We discover why it happened, practice the correct pattern, and continue practicing until it feels natural.
In preparing for an exam, I combine knowledge with *Strategy for the exam*: types of questions, patterns, time management, wrong answers, and practice in real conditions.
For speaking and Business English, I create realistic situations such as interviews, presentations, meetings, negotiations, and everyday conversations so students develop language they can actually use outside the lesson.
-A normal lesson
Each lesson has a clear purpose.
1. Rapid check-in & warm-up
We review previous work and highlight any areas that need attention.
2. Intentional teaching
I introduce one or more specific concepts based on the student’s needs.
3. Practice with control
I explain why I have chosen that answer and we go through examples together.”
4. Application in use
The student applies the new skill independently in conversation, writing, exam tasks, roleplay or problem solving.
5. Feedback & correction
I identify common mistakes, explain how to rectify them, and provide practical techniques to avoid them.
6. Test
The student uses all of this in more realistic or demanding conditions.
7. Next steps are clear
We conclude by precisely defining what to practice before the next lesson.
Every session should have visible progress, not just fill an hour.
