Over Maya
After migrating to Australia from Belgium, I decided to pursue a career in English Language teaching.
I became a certified English teacher. Since then I’ve been teaching general English to people of all ages, and helping students prepare for their IELTS exam.
I strive to create a warm classroom environment, based on trust and respect. The main focus is always to help you to achieve your language learning objectives.

Welcome, I'm Maya. I'm a certified teacher helping students from all ages reach their language learning objectives.
The focus of the lesson will be you, the learner. I aim to create a positive learning environment, where mistakes are viewed as an opportunity to reflect and review. You'll be encouraged to take risks, and actively engage with the English language.
Student-Centered and Communicative Approach.
A communicative approach is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. When you, as a student, are involved in real communication, your natural strategies for language acquisition will be used. This will allow you to learn to use the language.
This means that, in my lessons, activities will be designed to produce meaningful and real communication. They will be relevant to your life, interests and goals.
In contrast to traditional education, your voice will be central to the learning experience. My interactive lessons will ensure that you’re on your way to achieve your goals.
Finally, the 4 language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) will be integrated.

At the start of the course, we’ll identify areas for development and tailor the lessons to your needs. Some examples:
- Strategies, techniques and advice on how to improve your test results.
- Learn techniques to develop all four key English skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking (including pronunciation) to raise your English level before the exam.
- Prepare and practice common questions and tasks in the IELTS exam.
- You’ve taken the test but need help with improving your score.

Assets
As a non – native speaker I feel I can offer a better understanding of the learning process than a native speaker. Having gone through the process myself, I can help you become aware of common mistakes and give you advice on how to avoid common pitfalls.
