Hi! I'm Amy, a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Groningen with a strong passion for English and teaching. I have been tutoring students for over 5 years, helping learners of different ages and abilities improve their English, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals. I achieved an IELTS Band 9.0, with a 9.0 in every section, and placed in the top 1% in the country for English in my final high-school exams. I'm friendly, patient and adaptable, and I believe lessons should be enjoyable as well as productive. I tailor each lesson to the individual student, whether you want to improve your speaking and conversation skills, strengthen your grammar and vocabulary, develop academic or written English, or prepare for an important exam. As someone who has always enjoyed learning and working with others, I aim to make students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes — because that is an important part of learning. My goal is not simply to teach English, but to help you become a more confident and independent English speaker.

Hoi! Ik ben Amy, studente biomedische technologie aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, met een grote passie voor Engels en lesgeven. Ik geef al meer dan 5 jaar bijles aan leerlingen van verschillende leeftijden en niveaus, en help hen hun Engels te verbeteren, zelfvertrouwen op te bouwen en hun academische doelen te bereiken. Ik heb een IELTS-score van 9,0 behaald, met een 9,0 voor elk onderdeel, en behoorde bij mijn eindexamens op de middelbare school tot de top 1% van het land voor Engels. Ik ben vriendelijk, geduldig en flexibel, en ik vind dat lessen zowel leuk als productief moeten zijn. Ik stem elke les af op de individuele leerling, of je nu je spreek- en conversatievaardigheden wilt verbeteren, je grammatica en woordenschat wilt versterken, academisch of schriftelijk Engels wilt ontwikkelen, of je wilt voorbereiden op een belangrijk examen. Als iemand die altijd plezier heeft gehad in leren en samenwerken met anderen, streef ik ernaar dat leerlingen zich op hun gemak voelen om vragen te stellen en fouten te maken — want dat is een belangrijk onderdeel van het leerproces. I believe the best way to learn English is through a combination of clear explanations, regular practice, and lessons adapted to each student's individual needs. With 5 years of tutoring experience, I focus on creating a supportive environment where students can build confidence while making measurable progress. My lessons are personalized according to the student's current level, goals, and learning style. We can focus on grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, or exam preparation. I use practical examples, conversation exercises, structured explanations, and targeted practice to help students understand not only what is correct, but why. A typical lesson begins with a short review of previous material, followed by a new topic or skill. We then work through examples and exercises together before applying the material independently. I finish lessons by identifying areas that need further practice and providing guidance for what to work on next. I achieved an IELTS Band 9.0, including a 9.0 in every section, and achieved a top 1% result in English in my final high-school examinations for my country. I therefore have particular strengths in academic English, written expression, grammar, comprehension, and exam preparation. My lessons are suitable for school students, university students, and adults, from beginner to advanced level. Whether you want to improve your everyday English, prepare for an exam, strengthen your academic writing, or simply become more confident speaking English, lessons can be adapted to your specific goals.

My lessons are tailored to the current level, goals and learning style of the student. We can focus on grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation or exam preparation. I use practical examples, conversation exercises, structured explanations and targeted exercises to help students understand what is not only correct, but also why. A typical lesson begins with a brief repetition of the previously covered material, followed by a new subject or a new skill. We then work through examples and exercises together, after which the student applies the material independently. I conclude the lesson by indicating which areas extra practice is needed and by giving advice on what the student can then work on.
Ik heb een IELTS-score van 9,0 behaald, met een 9,0 voor elk onderdeel, en behoorde bij mijn eindexamens op de middelbare school tot de top 1% voor Engels. Ik ben dan ook bijzonder sterk in academisch Engels, schriftelijke uitdrukkingsvaardigheid, grammatica, begrijpend lezen en examenvoorbereiding.
Mijn lessen zijn geschikt voor scholieren, studenten en volwassenen, van beginners tot gevorderden.
