Hi, I'm Hielke
I'm a full-time, experienced Dutch teacher based in the Netherlands. I am a 30 year old true Dutchy and have dedicated myself to helping people from all corners of life learn Dutch in a way that’s both effective and fun.
My Journey
In my early twenties, I was studying Spanish at university when I realised something important: conventional teaching methods are often rigid, boring, and surprisingly ineffective. So I made a bold decision — I left university to explore alternative approaches to language learning. I combined the knowledge of psychologists, child development studies and several language teachers around the world.
Years later here we are.
I am a highly versatile teacher that adapts to YOU. I offer fun, highly effective classes that cater to your personality , needs and learning style.
Whether you're preparing for work, relocation, or looking for cultural integration, I’ll guide you up the only real Dutch mountain: the Dutch language

We want to see the views along the way! Your classes don't solely focus on words and grammar—we go deeper into the essence of Dutch culture. During our language journey you will encounter Dutch logic, Dutch life hacks, Dutch humor, and the oh-so-famous Dutch directness. Soon enough, phrases like “effe lekker zitten” or “we gaan gewoon een terrasje pakken” will feel natural.
When you understand how the language connects to the culture beyond basic communication, you will excel in any language goal. So weather you want to climb the career ladder, blend into Dutch social life, pass an exam or finally make sence of that letter from 'De Belastingdienst', I've got you covered.
My classroom = your (s)pace.
My classes are designed entirely around you. Your pace and learning style shape our lessons, because learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. I dedicate myself to crafting lessons that fit YOU. What that means is: if you don't get something, don't worry! I will find the best way for you to absorb the infomation your trying to learn. Whether that is getting you out of your seat and moving around, call and response games, or competing with yourself against the clock, you will be learning with a smile on your face.
I also tailor our subjects. From history to tech talk, our lessons are about things that interest you and that are relevant to YOUR life. Your time is precious, so we won't be wasting it on irrelevant topics.
Easy access to the trail
Your lessons don't end when you log off! Every week, you will find unparralled learning materials and personalised homework in your very own online workspace designed and built by me. Every tool is organised and easily accessable, so you will be able to make use of the 10 minutes between meetings or while you're waiting for the train. As my student you will have it all.
