Over Joy
I graduated from the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, Jazz guitar department.
Before I moved to NL, I studied in the applied music department of National Tainan University of the Arts in Taiwan and major in Music Composing and Film music.
Besides Jazz music, I have a huge passion in Brazilian music.
And I have been very active in the music scene in the Netherlands, especially in the Brazilian music scene.
After graduation, I have been playing at great venue as De Doelen together with RJSO Rotterdam, Tivoli Vredenburg with my musical partner Martina Effy, Laaktheater, Paard, Theater de Boemel, Theater Munganga, Theater Aan der Schie, etc.
And my quartet project with Codarts teachers Marijn van der Linden, Udo Demandt, in 2024 FEB, at theater Aan der Schie, we broke the record of the theater to have more than 160 people in the lunch concert program.

Hey Hey!
My name is Joy. I graduated from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Jazz Guitar Department. I specialize in Jazz and Brazilian guitar, and I was trained in classical music for the first five years of my guitar studies. Besides guitar, I play Brazilian instruments - pandeiro and cavaquinho. I have been teaching guitar since 2010.
In my lessons
For Beginners:
I use a unique method inspired by drums to teach guitar, which I developed from my experience with Brazilian percussion instruments. Using this method, I've seen many of my recent beginner students quickly learn the basics of guitar accompaniment. I discovered this method in 2023, and I can really tell the difference is huge and fast. It proves that rhythm is key :)
For Intermediate / Advanced Levels:
If you've been playing guitar for a while but feel stuck and don't know how to improve, I may help. I normally discuss, share, and offer different approaches to the same song, whether they are theory-related or technique-related. Due to my diverse musical background in Jazz, Brazilian, Classical, and Pop music, I often incorporate elements from different styles to enhance your and my playing :)
In General in my lessons you will learn about:
FingerBoard,
Left/Right hand techniques for guitar,
Understanding of Rhythm,
Reading,
Theory,
Improvising,
Arranging.
And the practical way of playing guitar.
My first trial lesson is free, no matter if you are interested or still have doubt. Just come and have a look first :)
