Over Nina
I was born and raised in the Netherlands, so Dutch is my mother tongue. Professionally, I'm a qualified teacher working in Dutch secondary vocational education, where I've spent years in the classroom with students of very different levels and backgrounds. My own field is pedagogy — the study of how people learn — which shapes the way I teach far more than any textbook does. It's also why I pay attention to the things that get in the way of learning: losing confidence, freezing up, or going blank when it matters most.
I completed my master's degree entirely in English and hold IELTS at C1 level. That means I can explain anything in English for as long as you need it, which makes a real difference when you're starting out and don't yet have the words to ask what you want to ask.

I'm a qualified teacher in Dutch secondary vocational education, and Dutch is my mother tongue. With years of classroom experience, I start by finding out what you already know and where you want to go. We build from there.
Most people come to me with a specific goal, and I shape the lessons entirely around it. If you want to manage in daily life — asking for directions, doing your shopping, talking to your neighbours — we work on the vocabulary and grammar you actually need for that. If it's about your job, we practise the language spoken on your work floor. I don't cover material you're never going to use.
If you have a language test coming up, we can work on your confidence in the run-up to it. A lot of people can do more than they manage to show on the day itself. Nerves, freezing up, losing your words — I pay deliberate attention to that, because it's often what makes the difference.
What a lesson looks like
I don't follow a fixed format, because everyone needs something different. The structure is always the same, though: we start with a short conversation about what you ran into that week, then we work on one thing at a time and practise it out loud straight away. Speaking is something you only learn by doing it.
I'll give you homework if it helps you — some people need it, others don't. You won't get a pile of exercises for the sake of it.
Everything can be explained in English for as long as you need it. That way you're not left guessing, and you don't have to feel embarrassed about making mistakes.

How we start
Every course begins with a free introductory conversation. In it I get a sense of your level, we talk about what you want to achieve, and I'll tell you honestly how many lessons you'll realistically need. Only then do we agree on anything, so you know exactly what you're signing up for.

Lessons are 60 minutes. My regular rate is €25 per lesson, and your first two lessons are €20 — so you can see whether we're a good fit before committing to anything.
