I'm Aravind, originally from India and currently based in Wageningen after completing my master's at Wageningen University. Music has been a constant in my life since childhood — twelve years of formal Carnatic vocal training, an arangetram concert, and over a hundred stage performances. I'm patient, easygoing, and genuinely enjoy seeing someone discover what their voice can do.

A bit about me
I trained for twelve years in Carnatic music — South Indian classical vocal — and performed on stage more than a hundred times during that period. I also completed my arangetram, which is a two-to-three hour solo concert in a temple, accompanied by my guru and live instrumentalists. It's the traditional graduation moment for a Carnatic singer, roughly equivalent to a debut recital for a classically trained pianist or violinist in the European tradition. So while I'm not a conservatory-trained European voice teacher, I've spent a serious chunk of my life inside one of the world's oldest vocal disciplines.
How I teach
My approach is slow and foundational. I don't believe in jumping into songs before the voice is ready, but I also don't believe in boring you to death with theory. We build the basics — pitch, breath, posture, listening — through short exercises, and then apply them straight away to music you actually want to sing. Most progress in singing happens through consistent small habits, not dramatic breakthroughs, so I'll usually give you two or three things to practise between lessons rather than overwhelming you.
I lean on a lot of ear training because I genuinely believe most singing problems are listening problems in disguise. If you can hear it accurately, you can sing it. We'll spend real time on that.
A typical lesson run an hour.
Ten minutes of warm-ups and breath work
Twenty to twenty-five minutes on technique — whatever you're working on at the moment (pitch, range, control, rhythm)
Twenty to twenty-five minutes applying it to a song or piece you're learning
A few minutes at the end where I tell you what to practise before next time
The first lesson is a little different — mostly me listening to where your voice is now, talking through what you want to get out of this, and getting a feel for how you learn best.
