My name is Ilona van Dantzig. I love working with people and being a teacher/tutor. I am a fully qualified primary school teacher (UK QTS ); have worked in schools (both in the UK and internationally) for over 20 years as a teacher. learning support coordinator and with 10 years experience as a tutor (in and outside of school). I also have a university accredited advanced diploma 'Overcoming Barriers to Learning in Mathematics'. I have experience of working with children with neurodivergence (especially dyscalculia, ADHD) as well as maths anxiety.
As a child, I could do maths but was not confident in it, nor did I fully understand it and frequently feared or hated it. Then as a teacher I grew to understand maths at a very different level. As my view of maths has changed, I very much want children and adults to experience it in a much more positive way and show you what you are capable of.
I now know that everyone is capable of maths, you just need to right methods and support for you (or your child) to understand it (not just be able to replicate a method), see its value and gain your (their) confidence.

I offer personalized maths tutoring for primary school aged children and early secondary students both online and in my practice space at home. I offer lessons of 45 minutes to an hour.
I take into account your (or your child's) needs, strengths and interest. For me the key to any good tutoring is building a relationship with you (or your child), and really connecting with you (them) to understand what works for you (them). I also work on building your (their) confidence, self-knowledge, motivation and shifting your (their) mindset if needed. I use concrete materials and visuals to support understanding and adapt my teaching to suit you (or your child).
Trainee primary teachers (PABO) and teachers who are not confident in their maths teaching are also very welcome.
